How to Register for Kindergarten

 

Students must be 5 years old before August 1st to be eligible to enroll for Kindergarten.

Step 1: Schedule Immunizations

Please ensure that your student meets the immunizations guidelines for the 2024-2025 school year.

Check with your primary care physican or Jordan Valley Community Health Center.

Step 2: Schedule a Kindergarten Screening

Schedule your Kindergarten Screening by calling the Office of School Readiness:

Step 3: Complete Online Student Enrollment Application

You can submit an Online Student Enrollment Application by clicking on the button below (link will open in new window), and then click on image that says "Online Enrollment Application":

Please Note: If you already have an active Enrollment Online Application account, you will need to use that log-in. Otherwise, you will need to select "Register New Account". If you are unable to complete the application online, please contact your school for assistance.

Step 4: Gather Supporting Documents

You will need to provide some supporting documents to your school during enrollment.

  • Proof of residence (Utility Bill, Lease agreement, etc.)
  • Proof of full legal name (one of the following: Birth Certificate, Passport, Social Security Card, State-Issued ID)
  • Immunizations
  • Student's Health Inventory

Step 5: Kindergarten Registration

To complete the Kindergarten Registration process, you will need to take your supporting documents (Step 4) to your school. At that time, your school will pull up your student’s Online Student Enrollment Application to complete the enrollment process and provide your student with a Student ID #.

Please Note: Additional orientation and Kindergarten readiness activities are offered at each of the elementary sites and throughout the community.

Step 6: Enroll in Summer Learning Opportunities (Explore!)

If you wish to Enroll in our Explore Summer Program, you may do so by clicking the button below.

All incoming Kindergarteners will enroll in "Kindergarten Jump Start".

Please Note: You will need to have completed all previous steps, and have been given an active Student ID before you may register for Explore. 

Additional Information

  • Kindergarten screenings help teachers coordinate the student classroom setup and assist in the creation of classroom instruction at the beginning of the year.  

  • Kindergarten registration helps the district determine how many Kindergarten teachers to hire for the upcoming school year.

  • Kindergarten screenings are conducted by the Springfield Public Schools Parents As Teachers program.  If you have a Parent Educator, please contact them to arrange a time for your screening.  If you do not have a Parent Educator, call 417-523-1333 for a screening.

  • Students currently enrolled in an SPS preschool program (Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), ECSE Integrated Classroom, and Wonder Years) do not need to register for Kindergarten or provide the supporting documentation.  You will need to make sure your child has received their immunizations to be compliant for the upcoming school year.

  • Students that have submitted an Online Enrollment Application for Kindergarten will need to contact their school to make arrangements to provide the listed supporting documentation.

  • Students must be enrolled in Kindergarten (or SPS preschool program) before they are able to register for summer school.  A student ID number is required for summer school enrollment.

  • Kindergarten preview days and orientations are offered at most schools.  Please check with your school for event information.  

  • School transfers will not be granted until the first week of the school year.  You must register at your home school location.
